Unaligned jaw - to fix or not to fix??
Question: Hello! Recently, I noticed that my jaw has become unaligned.. It's unaligned by maybe 2-3 mm or more. I read about it online, and I also looked at the symptoms. I don't seem to have any pain, problems chewing, headaches, etc... But it's really unattractive in my opinion since it is extremely noticable.. Since I have no pain, would it be better to leave it as it is? Also, will it fix on its own?
Also, it would be helpful if someone could tell me what procedure you must go through to fix it and how much it costs on average.
Thanks!
Answers:
well, it really depends...
orthodontics could fix it, and that runs around $4000 just for that. sometimes, they have to do oral surgery which could envolve, basically, breaking and resetting your jaw. there is always a possibility that you would end up with TMJ problems after that.
the best thing you could do would be find an orthodontist that is good, has a great rep, and best senario offers free consultations.
It depends on how much it is misaligned. The best thing to do would be to go to the orthodontist and have them evaluate it. I know that my boss, who does a lot of orthodontic work, will do free consultations for people who want a short answer. Orthodontic treatment generally averages about $4000 per case. If surgery is needed, that can add a fee of $10000-$15000 per case. I would definitely go have an orthodontist evaluate you. If it is something that is getting worse, you are not going to do yourself any favors by waiting. I have never seen one of these cases get better by itself. Take care.
