Is it ok to take Ibuprofen with Penicillin tablets for a wisdom tooth infection??
Question: Just prescribed 25mg penicillin tablets to take 4 times a day for an infection of my wisdom tooth. Wondering if you know if its ok to take Ibuprofen(200mg)with it to relieve the pain its causing me? I really hate mixing drugs together. I am also a smoker. Not allergic to anything.
Answers: It's absolutely ok to take it! Your dentist/dental surgeon would most likely prescribe ibuprofen for pain. It's not a blood-thinner, aspirin is. Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It reduces pain, fever & inflammation, which is most likely the cause of your pain. Call your dentist's office but you should be able to take 600-800 mg at a time, every 6 hrs or so (3-4 of the 200mg OTC tablets). That is a prescription strength dose so make sure it's ok with your dentist before you take it. Hope this helps!

weel i would guess not, my ex had his wisdom teeth pulled and he just took T3's for the pain with his penicillin. i would most likley ask a doctor first tho just to be safe

Penicillin is probably 250mg tablets. Yes, you can take 3 ibuprofen every 4 to 6 hours to reduce inflamation and pain. Sounds like alot, but it will not have any effects taking it short term (until you get the teeth extracted) Also, for infection use warm MOIST heat compresses (not ice) on the outside of your face where the infection is, this will circulate the blood faster and get the antibiotic to the source quicker. If you do not have a wet heating pad just wet a wash rag and put it in the microwave for approx.15-20 seconds. Make sure it's not too hot to burn your face. Also, begin warm salt water rinses 1/4 tsp. of salt (no more salt than that) to 8oz. glass of water 3-4 times a day. Expectorate, do not swallow . Get your extractions asap. Even with these things infection can get worse.
i had the exact same problem. Yes, it is ok to take it. I took 2 motrin every 6 hours and it really helped with the pain. Plus, the penicillin will kick in shortly and you will not need to take the asprin anymore! Good luck!
I went to the dentist yesturday for the same thing, very bad infection... and yes you can take them together... i got perscribed 500MG Penicillian and also Vicoprofen.. (vicoten & Ibuprofen) for the pain. I was told to take them together. every 4-6 hours.
