Why does clove oil compresses help a toothache??

Question: I had an abcessed tooth a week ago, with the anitbiotics, and all the pain meds didnt work at all. But the lady at the drugstore suggested clove oil, the kind you make hard candy with in the little bottles. made a compress after being awake nearly 36 hours, 5 mins after using i was out like a light. numbed it and i slept like a baby. why did this work?
Answers: I don't know what is in cloves that makes it work, but the toothache medicines that they have, usually has cloves in it or at least the one that said Red Cross on it and in the pkg it had little cotton balls and a tweezer and the med.
I have used cloves for years, I had a toothache so bad one time, that nothing worked until I mixed cloves, chamomile, a touch of salt and enough whiskey to make a paste, and then I put it on a piece of material to make a pack and went to sleep with it on, I didn't have another toothache for about 4 months. It works.
Clove oil acts as a local anesthetic.
Toothaches are painful but can be prevented
by take suitable precautions. Avoid eating
food which will result in the formation of acid
in the mouth, brush teeth regularly with a fluoride
toothpaste. I found the information at
