Have you ever had cavities filled with only anesthetic and no sedation???
Question: I am getting some cavities filled on Halloween day and will not be getting any type of sedation, only a numbing shot. UGH! I am a little nervous and was wondering if you would recommend I get the sedation as well or if I will be alright with out it? Let me know your experiences and please don't scare the crap out of me!
Answers: i am terrified of the dentist due to some bad experiences with teeth pulling
but cavities aren't so bad
ive never been sedated for a filling and it has been ok
the shot doesnt hurt at all
it just feels like pressure... i know thats what they tell you but the shot really doesnt hurt
the trick to fillings going smoothly is that the denstist waits long enough for you to be completely numb
once i was not completely numb and he started drilling and i felt a nasty sharp pain
but he waited another 5 minutes or so and it was totally fine
during my filling i like to concentrate on breathing through my nose and happy thoughts
itll be over before you know it
and sorry about the halloween date!! thats sucky!
Nobody is as much a scaredy cat in a dentist chair as I am. And I only have the numbing shots and they work perfectly. I discuss this with my dentist and he knows I don't have a problem being numb for several hours so he knows how much to inject.
Works great!
I am a total sugar fiend so I've had my fair share of cavities. the shot itself hurts, but you wont feel anythign else, i promise!
i've never had sedation. i got all my fillings done as a kid. frankly i think sedation is just a way to get more money out of most folks and should only be used on those that have serious phobias. i never had a problem with getting my teeth filled.
most of us don't get knocked out to have cavities filled, it's not a big deal
I've had quite a bit of dental work done and have never been sedated for any of it. The worst that has come from any of it is how often I bite my tongue afterwards. The best thing to do is to find a really good dentist who can tell if the shot hasn't numbed you enough...also, just tell him/her if you can still feel it.
i had three teeth PULLED with only a few novacaine shots you should be fine with just the anesthetic if its only cavaties
I have never been sedated for cavities. No problems. Just a slight pinch when the Novocaine is put in and that's all. Remember to speak up if you feel pain when they are drilling. They can give you more Novocaine if you feel anything.
My 9 year old has also had cavities filled with no sedation, even when she was 5. No problems for her either.
You'll be fine, good luck.
Dont worry about it I just got a tooth pulled today and had no sedation its nothing just try not to think about it before you go in and it will be alot easier GOOD LUCK

no one likes dentists, but when i used to have filling i just had it numbed,i can remember feeling a bit of discomfort,it was a few years ago,but if your dentist agrees have both but remember you will feel drowsy with sedation, and it all depends you may feel sick it effects people different,in my opinion i would just have the numbing, the only discomfort rearly is that you cant talk properly for about 2 hours because of the numbness,my daughter in law has just had 2 done she didnt feel a thing but she was crapping herself before she went
good luck dont worry there rearly is nothing to it
No problem at all, Look I am the biggest baby when it comes to shots and I did just fine getting a wisdom tooth pulled with just a shot. It will sting just alittle but not very long. Trust me! It was not that bad. They let me sit for about 20 mins. and I did not even know my tooth was out. They had to tell me they were done. Don't freak yourself out. You will be just fine. Remember, this is from a shot baby...
Yes I have with only the shots, they can give you some gas to calm your nerves but if not it is still ok you don't feel much. It is a little unciomfortable but not too bad.
i hae had three filling two at once and they were all with anesthic and i even had my wisdom teeth pulled that way you wil be fine
I was scared as hell today about getting cavities filled. It turns out I wasn't actually getting them filled, per se, but getting a sealant put on my teeth. They did fill a big one, though. I figured I'd have to get stuck with the needle and that it would hurt a lot. However, they didn't even need to use Novocaine. They just swabbed the gums near the tooth with a topical ointment and I didn't feel a thing. The numbness went away after about an hour and I was only sitting in the chair for around 15 minutes.
