For grinding teeth...can you buy a mouth guard in the drugstore or does it have to be fitted by dentist??
Answers: The Dr. wanted my daughter to get one, he thought she was grinding her teeth and causing headaches. We bought one at the store and boiled it in water to mold to her teeth and she learned to sleep with it . It didn't take long...........x
The answer is both. The one the dentist fits for you I would imagine fits pretty snug and you wouldn't have to worry about maybe it falling out of your mouth or something.
If you are concerned about the price, you can go to a Wal-Mart of local sports store and get a protective mouth guard there. You can fit those to your teeth as well by boiling them in hot water and fitting to your upper teeth.
I know most people will tell you store bought is your best bet , But I would say your dentist is your best bet. Why you ask? Lab made ones last longer they are custom made for your specific problem It prevents your teeth from cracking and needing crowns( caps). The drug store ones you will bite straight though them eventually. The ones made for grinders are harder and takes longer to wear out much more prevention with the dental office made guard.
But if finances are a concern and you are unable to afford the one at the dentist you can get the store brand to at least prevent your teeth wearing down . Hope this helped. Best wishes
You might try the over the counter option first. And if you are not satisfied with the result, make the dental appt.
