Is it possible for the infection to go away when taking antibiotics & no need for extraction??

Question: I heard you still have to have the tooth extracted even if infection clears with antibiotics, but what is the point of infection is cleared, is it possible by just taking antibiotics the infection can clear & no need to do anything esle? thanks.
Answers: The antibiotics will kill the current infection but not the cause of it.
The cause of it is a cavity whic has reached the nerve ending, the only way to clear the infection for sure is to get rid of the cavity, and repairing the damage. Either by root canal treatment or extraction
Below is a link which goes into clinical details
If you have a dental abcess at the root of a tooth, then you probably have a dead nerve which means the abcesses could keep coming back if you don't have an extraction or a root canal with a crown...
The infection will subside...................
But the cause of the infection has to be repaired/taken care of, or it will return.
The antibiotics are only killing some of the bugs. If you don't physically remove the entire infection by a root canal or extracting the tooth, it will flare up again. But this time the bugs will be a little resistant to the antibiotic, and it will be tougher to get under control, which means more painful! Do yourself a favor, and invest some time and money into saving the tooth, if that is an option. Good Luck!
The anti-biotics will cover up the infection and take pain away short term but the infection will keep returning. Unless you want to keep taking anti-biotics every time the infection returns then the best solution is to have the tooth out.
