Can you gain weight from drinking protein shake ???


Question: I noticed there is 265 Cal in every serving of protein shake , and you suppose to have 3 servings a day to see the result . This is more caloies than a meal . Those of you who tried it , you ever had any problem gaining weight ?? Dose it really work to build more muscles drinking it ??
Answers: Fact is nothing replaces a meal. Most full meals should have 5-700 calories in them, assuming you eat 4-6 meals a day. You still have to put time in the gym lifting weights to gain size.

If you are trying to gain muscles mass, the answer is both, but more so, one in the morning, one after your workout and one 30 min before bed. If your workout is in the evening, take one mid afternoon.

Without doing much, you could start by reading Mens Health and Muscle & Fitness Magazines. Both are published by Joe Weider Inc. Both have great workout routines in them and advice on diet, fitness, health, supplementation.

I would reccomend that you start by hitting the weight room, 4-5 times per week. Lifting with Compund exercies first, then isolation exercises. 4-5 sets of each, with 1-2 of them being warm up exercises. 9-12 rep range is good for muscle mass, and definition and stamina. Rest each body part 4-7 days. So if you do Chest on monday, dont do it till at least friday.

When it comes to supplementation you will use the minimum:
1 multi vitamin pill per day
tribulus
Whey protein or whey protein isolate. Depending on allergies, you may want to use a Soy protein. you should use 2-3 grams of protein per kilogram of bodyweight in your daily diet to gain muscle (you still need to lift weights though and stick with it. It takes a long long time. It took me 2 years to put on 35 pounds of muscle.) Take some in the morning when you wake up, mid day, and as part of your post workout drink.
I would also reccomend taking L-Glutamine as part of your post workout routine.
Take something with creatine. This stuff is well documented. I would reccomend BSN Nutrition NOxplode. IT has creatine, arginine, and others as well as nitric oxide. Take this for your pre workout routine, about 30-45 minutes before your workout. It takes awhile for your body to absorb the creatine.

That should be the core of your supplement routine. Do not rely on the protein powder to get you all of your protein in a day.

Remember to do cardio at least 3 times a week 60-75% of your max heart rate (MHR) which is 220-your age. for about 30 min each session. If i do legs, I do cardio after. Sometimes I will split it, 15-20 min before, 15-20 min after. You have to burn the fat to show your hard work!!

Do abs at least 3 times a week. focus more on form and crunching the muscle, than how many reps you do.

No, that is not more calories than a meal. Drinking only 3 of those adds up to 795 calories... not enough for a days worth. A woman needs 1,500 calories and a man needs 2,000. Don't drink those (no, they won't give you any muscles at all... you need to work out)... try nutritious meals and excersize.
Yes...I have been taking it for a few weeks and I have gained a great deal of weight, but it is muscle mass. You need to make sure that you work out so that the protein turns to lean body mass and does not settle and become fat. I'm not an expert by any means, but I know that muscle weighs more than fat, and you should work out for lean muscle mass when taking these supplements.

Certainly the body will use the amino acids from the protein shake to build up body tissues. But unlike carbs, or fats the human body cannot store excess proteins so the excess will be used as energy. Now it takes energy to digest food and because of the process of removing the nitrogen group from amino acids or deamination, it takes the most energy to digest proteins. This is why it is easier to lose weight with high protein diets, but make no mistake the body will use proteins for energy and can indeed gain weight from them.
Protein helps build your muscles. The thing about it is that if you want to gain positive weight, you need to work out when you take protein. The best way to gain weight is to take in double your weight in grams of protein, for example if you weigh 190 your intake should be around 400 grams of protein a day to really gain. You should also look into taking some creatine to help boost your energy and keep you from getting sore when you gain your weight!
The protein shakes I used were INTENDED to help gain body weight and mass. The idea however, is that through a combination of training with weights, and extra protein in your diet, promotes muscle development. The extra body weight should translate into muscle mass, not fat. I am no doctor, but IF a person is lifting weights, exercising, or training hard, I think they can intake more calories than if they are inactive.
Also, I am no expert, but I assume that these shakes you are drinking are in a combination with some type of training regime. I don't think there is any shake, potion, or sports drink on earth that will lead to muscle gain with no exercise. What I mean to say, is that I can't argue that a protein shake in itself will have adverse affects on a person, nor can i say for certain that it will offer extreme benefits if the shake is the only action taken toward muscle gain. Basically, when it comes to strength training, I doubt there is a substitute for hard work.
You can gain weight with a protein shake, but you have to be careful. If you are not working out consistently several hours per week, and covering every major muscle group, that protein will have nowhere to but on to your tummy.

Your muscles will grow to survive - if they are living the easy life (low exercise), they will stay soft. If they are having trouble (you workout often enough to make them sore) they will build themselves with a protein supplement.
The protein shake I drink twice a day is around 280 calories, but I drink them as a meal replacement. I lost 95 lbs in 8 months using it, Some protein shakes contain the wrong ingredients that may cause weight gain if you drink to many.
