Does giving blood make you lose weight??

Answers: No.

Blood cells regenerate themselves. In addition, I suspect the 600ml of blood or similar you donate will be quickly replaced by water in your system.
no
Doh! yes the weight of the blood *nods*
no it does not.
Nope, blood volume doesn't affect weight.
No. You are silly. :)
no i dont think so
yes! daah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Purely a temporary weightloss due to the loss of fluid.
Just the weight of the blood you lost.
No
no
i agree with all the above
no..but if you donate your organ, it's yes.
Only temporarily because your body replenishes the loss within 12 hours.
well it makes ur blood and bodu nutriant to lose thats all....which u can have by having healty diet
Yes, it does, but very small difference in weight. If you give blood of 1/2 litre may result in reduce of 25 to 75 gms in your weight.
This is just for initial period. After 1 or 2 hours it becomes normal.
Errrr No Weight loss is due to losing excess water ant body fats not blood!
No way!!!! blood does not equal fat! plus your body will work to replenish the lost blood, like when women have their periods. If you lose too much blood you can become anaemic! what you do lose is a lot of iron.
Initially yes, in the long term no. If your calories intake is higher than your calorie expenditure you won't loose weight. If you want to loose weight either eat less or burn more calories.
Just the weight of the blood for a short while.

Your body will generate more blood to make up for the blood you gave, from the food that you eat.
If you go according to prescribed medical standards to the blood donor it is Not at all ! You may feel bit exhausted and tired.

After donating blood you have to consume lot of cereals, milk & diary products, fruits, green leafy vegitables. You will gain in your normalacy within few days.
why not donate some blood go on the scale and see? lol.
Well if you gave blood, the blood cells will just reproduce and the (tiny amount of) weight will come back.
Blood makes up for an approx 8% of you body weight, so when you donate blood you give 500 cc which would be 1/10 of the normal amount of blood circulating through your body, so the immediate answer to your question is yes, not something really noticeable but you do.

Interestingly a few hours after wards your body will all ready have re established the amount of liquids lost in the donation and in less than 3 months you should have all ready replenished the amount of red and white blood cells.

I wouldn't recommend blood donations as a weight loosing program, there are easier ways and besides you shouldn't donate more than 4 times a year
no
I have never heard that before. you only give blood to save a life baby . IF we could lose weight by giving blood all the people would go to give blood

bye
no
no it wont... it could actually make you healthier coz your blood will be replaced as new blood cells are formed... thoug its not advisible to those who are anemic or have low red blood count to donate blood without further approval from the doctor since it could make the person more stressed... and it would not be easy for him to recover...
A gallon of water weighs 8.5 punds

A pint is 1/8 of a gallon - therefore you have donated about a pound (maybe a little more as blood density maybe higher)

The trick is that your body will immediately work to replace what it has lost with higher retension of fluids and greater consumption of nourishment.
was some concern in the area of voluntary blood donations in Jamaica because many persons who could donate blood refused to do so for a variety of reasons. These reasons run the gambit from persons being afraid of being poked about with a needle to believing that giving blood would make them lose weight, he said.

Dr. Pena noted that last year, PAHO worked closely with the NBTS in conducting an anthropological study to determine why persons were prone not to donate blood and subsequently developed methodological guidelines for knowledge of the attitude and practices of the public regarding blood donation .
