Is it true that if you eat before swimming, that you'll drown??
Question: It's an old wives tale, I think? Or is it?
Answers: How does anyone believe that stuff? That's like saying you can't think after eating or you'll pass out from lack of blood to the brain. It's just a rumor the swimming pool owners started so people won't pee in the pool.
You may get a stomach cramp which may cause you to drown.
NO. If you eat right before swimming you can get a cramp. That's about it.
its an old wise tell, it comes from the idea that you can cramp after eatting, which is only partially true
No only if you cant swim..I eat all the time and swim right after that or I even eat while swimming.
The thing is that you could get cramps and if you get crap ms you could be in to much pain to swim. But the food does not actually make you drown.
Now thats the first that i heard you would drown....i have always heard that it is cramping.
Put that one under the old wives tale category. As a matter of fact, not eating before swimming is more dangerous.
no, but you will get stomach cramps wich might cause you to drown.
yeah but you could get a stomach cramp (or any other sort of cramp) at any point, anytime, so it doesn't make any difference.
it's actually better to go swimming straight after eating (when the food is still in you rstomach), rather than 2hours later because you'll be in the middle of digestion (and the food will be in your intestines).
WEll you can get a cramp witch could make you drown.
Its and old wives tale.
no, it means if you eat b4 you swim, you could get tummy cramps that may prevent you from swimming- then you drown.
everyone else basically summed it all up
you might get a stomach upset
and need to go to the toilet
I dont know about drowning, but you can get stomach cramps and that could make you drown. Thats why you are suppose to wait 30 minutes to an hour berfore going swimming after you eat.
No that is not true - unless you ate before swimming and then couldn’t swim - then that’s possible. Otherwise if you can swim, at worst you just may get cramps - annoying but not deadly.
I don't think it has happened often but it is true. A person can develop a cramp which would require being helped ashore because they would have trouble swimming. It's good to let your food digest for at least 30 min.
Most definitely an old wives tale. I've eaten before swimming for the better part of my 36 years, and I'm still hangin' around...
