Two pills behind on birth control; want to re-regulate, how long before effectiveness goes back to normal??

Question: I accidentally dropped two of my pills (on the floor, couldn't find) during this past cycle, so instead of skipping them, I just took the next day's pill. Well, now I'm off two days off (today is Monday, my pills are punched out until Wednesday). I want to put it back on the regular schedule where I take the beginning of the new pack this Sunday instead of Friday, but the insert says not to allow more than 7 days to pass between the last white pill of the old pack and the new pack. What happens if you let more than 7 days pass? What happens to the effectiveness of the pill? How long before it gets back to normal?

Sorry if that's complicated. I appreciate the help.
Answers: I do that all the time. Mind you, I'm a lesbian so I don't exactly have to worry about getting pregnant.

Just take it when you normally would and use a condom if you have sex in the next month.

Honestly, you should be using a condom every single time you have sex anyway. The pill is not 100%. I've known women to get pregnant while on it; we ovulate twice in a month more often than we'd like to think we do.
I've had to do that a couple times. I know that the pill does become less effective if you miss days (I think it was an article in Cosmo). I almost always use a condom anyway, I'm a worrier by nature :]. I would say probably after the new pack you should be back to the usual level of effectiveness.

Until then just be cautious. Hope this helps!
