Period Pains??
Question: Right before, during, and a few days after my period by back hurts like hell. Some days I can't even lie in bed comfortably. Why does this happen, how can I relieve the pain, advil/tylonel/midol/other pain killers don't work for me. Also during my period I get horrible cramps where my body pretty much forces itself into the fetal position where I just hold my stomach cause it hurts so bad. It's been so painful where I cry. I hardly ever cry. I was thrown off a snowmobile this winter and broke my arm in 4 places and I didn't cry.. My arm was so swollen they had to cut my jacket off. So, that might give you an idea to the pain. Someone please help!! Suggest something!!
Answers: Try a heating pad, alternating between your back and belly.
Unless there's a reason why you can't take ibuprofen, try 600 mg every 6 hours. Sometimes it can upset a person's stomach, so take it with food.
Tylenol will be of very little help because it isn't an anti-inflammatory drug, and does not reduce cramping.
Make an appointment and ask your healthcare provider about Ponstel. It's a prescription medication that is especially good for menstrual symptoms.
Oral contraceptive pills are NOT just for birth control. They have many health benefits, including relieving menstrual problems. The pill could help you a LOT. Ask your healthcare provider about tri-cycling them -- taking 3 packs back-to-back, skipping the hormone-free pills. Doing this will cause you to have a period (and the horrible symptoms) only once every 3 months. Seasonale is a pill that does this too, but is expensive and not all insurance covers it.
You should see a doctor or midwife about your problems. She may want to evaluate you for endometriosis.
You do not have to live this way. There things that can help you significantly.
Awww man.. I hate when that time of the month comes... I get really bad pains when I have mines too. Some of the things you can do is stay active, like walking around or moving around. Painkillers usually dont work, but you can try some tea. And always try and stay warm... it helps avoid cramps.. so I hope this helped, and good luck!! :)
At the chemist you can buy something called Ponderstan or something similar whereever you live.It helps to relieve cramp pains. My 12 year old suffers terribly from cramps and that is what the doctor suggested. You dont need a prescription.
These extremely painful periods mean that you suffer from dysmenorrhea (it's just a fancy word for painful periods . You can take aspirin or acetaminophen for the pain, but I recommend a doctor or a gynecologist, for an abdominal and pelvic exam. S/he may prescribe birth control to make the menstruation a bit more regular and less painful. Good luck.
Tea. Green tea. do not drink anything cold during this time. Girlk i have the same thing. Or if you dont like tea (doesnt have to be green) take a hot/warm towel and lay it in teh area the most pain is. On your lower back or tummy. It relaxes the muscles so it wouldnt be as bad. then take something with drowsy meds n it and go to sleep. by the time you wake up you wont really feel a athing cuz ur muscles are relaxed enough. Also whach what u eat. if u eat lotz of sugar that could make it worse.i cant eat vanilla cookies when im on it. Hope that helps!
You need to see your dr,sweetie....i have endometriosis and have had problems since I was real young. I have missed school, work...life because of the pain. Tylenol, ibuprofen, heating pad....but if these dont work, be sure to tell the dr....he/she can give you something ........good luck
All my life (from 12 to 27) I suffered the same way you're suffering. My parents took me to many doctors who told me many things to do - none worked (and I refused to have a baby to cure the cramps). Finally, an ob/gyn said I was likely born with endometriosis as it appeared to be slow growing. I found that only when I took hormones could I have a period without pain. The dr. also said that was because the hormone prevented my having a lining around the inside of my uterus. I quit the hormones (now called birth control pills) in order to have a baby (actually had twins) and then a hysterectomy. The dr. was right - endometriosis had spread through my tubes, was even dense in my stomach, and he could see no way I ever became pregnant. (He couldn't see God's plan for me to be a mother). PLEASE go to a good ob/gyn and let him examine you. There are ways to destroy endometriosis now without surgery. Good luck. God bless!
Period pains this severe warrant a visit with an OB/GYN. If your exam is normal I would prescribe birth control pills which would almost certainly make your periods more bearable. Don't keep suffering go get some help. And it is true that you may have endometriosis but a reasonable treatment option would be low dose birth control pills. They are used all the time for this reason.
I suffered as well when I was young ..just remember if you think this pain is bad, having a baby is way worse! get your dr. to recommend something strong for these times.
