A question for the women regarding depo provera??
Question: my girlfriend has become a bit moody, not nearly as affectionate as a month ago(no,she's not cheating),hasn't been feeling all that great, occasional headaches as well as fatigued.she has stated several times that it's not me or us and i do believe her, though at times it is difficult to not take it personally.i've been reading up on the side effects of depo provera and it's made me think that this could be the cause.but, being a man i have no idea as to how it feels to be under the influence(for lack of a better term) of this particular medication so i am reaching out to you in the hope that i can get some positive feedback.this lack of affection is taking it's toll on our relationship as she wasn't like this before.whatever it is has had quite an effect on her and i'd like to help her in anyway i can.she's not insecure about how i feel for her as i'm very vocal about my feelings.can she talk to her gyno about this?it's a touchy subject so i will show the utmost discretion.thank you.
Answers: The shot is notorious for causing lack of sex drive, depression and all sorts of other nasty, and severe, symptoms. I would never recommend it to anyone. I suggest you discuss this with her and suggest she get on a much lower dose birth control. I assume she's on the shot because it's a better option for her than taking a pill every day, so I recommend NuvaRing, which only needs to be removed and inserted once a month (as opposed to the shot, where you only get one every three months).
I hope for your and her sakes she gets off the shot because it's really a nasty form of birth control and, in my opinion, should be taken off the market because it causes so many problems for so many women.
Depo Provera is like the pill which is like the patch which is like most other female contraceptives. They are hormone based. Sounds to me like the hormones in the shot aren't right for her. She could be suffering from a hormonal imbalance. She should talk to her doctor to see if there are other methods out there that she can use. A low hormone pill might be the answer. In the meantime, don't take it personally. Take it from someone who knows, she probably doesn't realise she's being moody half the time and when she does she's probably asking herself why she's being that way. It's not something she can control. She needs to switch to another method of birth control. if the pill is too much work for her, she should talk to her doctor about Implanon. It's an implant that lasts up to three years.
I agree with Cyber_Music. The depo-shot is just probably not right for your girlfriend.
I was on the shot for about 2 years, but I have pre-existing chemical imbalances which cause depression and such things, so being on the Depo shot had actually helped balance things out for me.
When I talked to my gyno, he said the patch and the pills I believe were the ones with the least amount of side effects because my boyfriend was concerned about me being moody too haha.
Please dont take it personally, its something that she should speak with her birth control provider about, and make sure she asks them about something which will hopefully not have the same side effects making her moody.
I hope everything works out for you all!
